Not all heroes wear capes! Take Dr. Tracey Burrell and Tammy Reyna, two Bossier Parish superstars who were honored by the Bossier Chamber of Commerce at the Community Heroes awards ceremony for the contributions they have made in education.
Dr. Burrell is the Recruitment and Retention Supervisor for Bossier Schools whose teaching career in the district started at Parkway, then evolved into leadership roles. She believes that a classroom teacher is the most powerful entity in a school building. Dr. Burrell also firmly believes the teaching profession is one of the most impactful and rewarding careers known. That’s why she has spent the last two decades teaching children and building pipeline programs to fuel and sustain the teacher workforce.
Tammy Reyna is a Special Education teacher at Kingston Elementary who integrates her personal perspective as a mother of a child with special needs into her classroom. Mrs. Reyna began her career in the U.S. Air Force and upon discharge, began working with children with autism spectrum disorder in the behavioral health field. After her family moved to Barksdale Air Force Base, Reyna sat out for a few years before returning to teach special education in Bossier Parish. She is committed to creating an educational environment where each student feels safe, supported and celebrated.
These two educators most definitely emulate the definition of community heroes and Bossier Schools applauds them for making a difference in the lives of our students and the education profession.
