Career Technical Education (CTE)



Jump Start is Louisiana’s innovative Career and Technical Education (CTE) program. Jump Start {May also be referred to as the Taylor Opportunity Program for Students (TOPS) Tech diploma} prepares students to lead productive adult lives, capable of continuing their education after high school while earning certifications in high-wage & high-demand career sectors.
The Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) approved eleven (11) Jump Start 2.0 pathways and six (6) Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Mathematics (STEAM) pathways and one (1) Pre-Educator Pathway. These Pathway Brief links are as follows:
Within the TOPS Tech diploma graduation pathway, students are required to attain industry-promulgated / valued, Industry-Based Credentials (IBCs) in order to graduate with a Career Diploma. (Jump Start courses may also be used as electives for students pursuing a TOPS-University diploma):
Schools receive the same accountability grade credit for preparing students for careers in high-demand job sectors as they do for students who achieve top academic honors.

Bossier Schools offers a variety of programs of study within the pathways including: Agriscience, Automotive, Barbering, Business, Carpentry, Certified Nursing Assistant, Family & Consumer Sciences, Firefighter, Graphic Arts, Programming, and Welding to name a few.

Criteria for enrollment can be found in the Pupil Progression Plan.
